Isn't it strange?

Post by Mikey_ »

With so many views and hits to this forum, I'm wondering why there are only 22 registered users, and not that many active...

HKSS Forum has always been like that ... until people started discovering MSN, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, etc. etc. haha... Oh well.

I have made a few changes to the forum where most of the sections now require you to log in to read the messages. This will hopefully result in higher registrations, and hopefully in higher participation as well.

The Bottom sections (Feedback, Announcements, Donations, Tips, Wishlist) are still viewable by the public. Registration is not required there.

Mikey, not sure if that's a good idea. Wouldn't people be turned away if they just wanted to look for awhile before deciding whether it's worthwhile for them to hang around?

I frequent some other message boards and know a lot of people that just reads the messages and stay silent.

I don't know... I'm thinking that once guests register, they may want to stay once they see what this board has to offer. Think I should make it open to view and open to reply again?

In most cases, when you enter a forum, you can browse it freely, you can post if you want but your a "guest", if you want to have your nickname you have to register and it guarantees that no one uses your nickname instead of you. That's all...

It's no big think to have to register... You have to take into account that nowadays, everyone has a forum discussion in PhP like yours... No one uses hkss' former kind of forum...

Do you have to login to read the messages of the forum ? I think we shouldn't have to... lol

is that how you have it now? you have to register in order to post?

cuz i just post something and i accidently forgot to log on. i prefer needing to log on in order to post. it encourages ppl to sign up to ;)

i agree though, reading should be open, but not posting.
